
Leslie Allen, Sr. Taylor

Leslie A Taylor, Sr was born in Arabi, GA to Malinda Martin and Will Taylor. He was a graduate of Gillespie Institute where he was mentored by the Rev. Dr. and Mrs Clark who recognized his intellectual abilities and helped him to enter Lincoln University, a Black Presbyterian college in PA, where he completed both his undergraduate work and seminary. He married Rebecca Patterson and two children, Leslie A, Jr and Olga L were born to this union.
Leslie was the pastor of Bethel Presbyterian Chapel and founding pastor of Bethel Presbyterian Church in Plainfiled, NJ from 1931 until his death. He served as chrm, planning comm, Board of Christian Educ, Linccoln Univ.summer conf for young people, 1943-45; exec sec, Presbyterian Council of North and West, 1945-1952;editor annual minutes, 1943-49; pres., Plainfield Interracial Comm, 1236-39; pres, Presbyterian Ministers' Assoc of NY and NJ, 1939-1940: pres,. Plainfield Council for World Friendship, 1947-49; member, Comm on Civil Rights, 1960; author: The Mission of Jesus, A.M.E.Z. Q., 1939.
He is survived by his son, daughter, four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
